The baby shower monkey theme is a popular decoration motif if the mom-to-be is having a baby boy or baby girl.
There are several key things to remember if you’re going to create this type of baby shower.
You can make your monkey theme specific and have a ‘Curious George’ style baby shower or you can make it more general and have a tropical jungle monkey type of shower. On the hand, if you are having a girl then you should check out these girl monkey baby shower ideas. It’s really up to you how you want to set up your decorations!

Baby Shower Monkey Decorations
There are some things you’re going to need for this theme to work if you are doing it all on your own:
- color theme – brown, yellow and turquoise green
- color themed plates and napkins
- color themed streamers
- plush monkey toys in several sizes
- potted plants
- ambient/bgm jungle sounds
The first thing you’ll need to do is decorate your baby shower area by filling it with potted plants, potted palms, ferns and any other kind of vegetation that you can acquire.
Don’t be afraid to ask your friends if they can lend you their plants. The more the better!
Tie the streamers together and hang them around the baby shower area. Connect them to plants, to the wall and anywhere else you can think of to create that jungle vine theme.
Strategically place the plush monkeys throughout the house. Place the little monkeys around the vegetation and potted plants. Don’t be afraid to get creative and hang them wherever you think they will look cute.
You can place the biggest one near the entrance to welcome your guests or you can use it as your centerpiece. More about your monkey themed centerpiece later…
Get some jungle background music and have it playing at low volume in the background. This will further enhance your jungle monkey theme experience.
Monkey Diaper Cake & Centerpiece Ideas
You can do many cool and creative things for your monkey centerpiece. Here are some great ideas that are easy to do and look great at the center of your table:
- Sit a large plush monkey doll inside of your baby bath and tie green and yellow balloons around it.
- If the mom to be is having twins then have two identical average-sized plush monkey dolls with one yellow balloon tied to one monkey and one green balloon tied to the other.
- Use your monkey inspired food spread as your centerpiece.
Another great idea is to create a diaper cake and put little plush monkeys around it.
Once you’re finished creating a diaper cake you can decorate it with balloons and color themed streamers. Here’s a video explaining how to create a diaper cake:
Baby Shower Monkey Games
There are several baby shower game ideas we’ve covered in the past that can be adapted to a monkey theme. Here are some more games that you can use in your shower:
Feed the monkey – first, you are going to stick up a monkey poster on your wall (you can get one for super cheap at amazon).
After your guests arrive, you are going to blindfold your guests and give each one a banana sticker. The person who successfully sticks the banana sticker on the mouth of the monkey wins!
You will need: over-sized poster of one monkey, banana stickers and blindfold.
Wild animal alphabet game – guests must write the alphabet on a sheet of paper and write down as many animals as they can think of for each letter of the alphabet.
The contestant with the most animals wins. Give contestants at least 10 minutes to accomplish this task.
You will need: sheets of paper and pencils.
Guess the Gerber jungle food – blindfold your guests and have them taste different fruit inspired baby foods (like Gerber baby foods). The contestant that answers correctly the most wins.
You will need: a variety of fruit inspired baby food, small spoons and a blindfold.
Baby Shower Food – The Monkey Way!
One of the main reasons why I love this theme is because of the food!
It is super easy to prepare and it’s delicious, all you need is banana inspired foods such as banana cake, banana cupcakes, banana candies and bananas, of course.
Remember that this meal plan is primal so all finger foods are acceptable. The simpler the better!
Cheese sticks, fish sticks, chicken strips and anything else that you can think of that is simple to make and eat is fair game.
You should also add to the tropical jungle atmosphere by including sliced mango, pineapple, papaya, and kiwi. I recommend using dried fruit since it’s easier to handle and decorate with.

This is a very cute idea, I have always loved monkeys they are so cute and lovable. You create the jungle with just potted plants and streamers, cool. I love the food idea as well, anything with bananas or any other jungle fruit would go over very well. I was thinking along the lines of a fruit salad with all of them mixed together.
Thanks for sharing, and thank you for the mixed fruit salad idea. That would go over well.
Between this blog and the Winnie the Pooh one, you must really like forest, jungle, outdoorsy themes. You have some really cute ideas but what if the person doesn’t like the outdoors and plants and all? Do you have any shower ideas that would be centered around something other than that? Have you noticed that almost everything made for a baby’s room is some kind of animal?
Hi, Thank you for commenting.
what if the person doesn’t like the outdoors and plants and all?
Sure we have plenty of themes other than the outdoorsy type, one great one is the gender reveal party theme, there is also the retro baby shower theme and the rock star theme!
Have you noticed that almost everything made for a baby’s room is some kind of animal?
Yea I have, I don’t know why. but it sure is cute!
I hope this answers your questions, thanks again.
Most of today’s guys tend to prefer the curious George theme when I asked about it in the office because that was such a popular children’s book from the start of their lives. I remember reading and enjoying it myself. Thanks for the ideas!
wow, I didn’t know that. Thanks for taking the time to ask around and reporting back to us. Have a great day!
You make the jungle environment very easy to create just plants and streamers. I love the food idea as well, anything with bananas or any other fruit would go over very well. That idea about the baby food game is great, but have you ever really tasted it?
Thanks!
I have and I like it
I am looking for a theme that will be something very colorful but not an animal or clown, clowns are just creepy. You did an excellent job on you blog, will you be posting more?
Thanks Linda! Yea, I post once or twice a week.
How about a gender reveal party? That way you can decorate with both blue and pink. Check it out and let me know what you think.
I like monkeys don’t get me wrong but why do they use monkeys for boy baby showers? Is it because they are always climbing and getting into problems because they are so curious? I love the monkey food idea as well. Maybe some banana pudding would play into this theme well.
I think you hit the nail on the head and yes, the banana pudding idea would fit perfectly!
Thanks for sharing!
Monkey’s have always been one of my favorite animals, I always wanted a chimp as a pet and I had a stuffed monkey with a rattle in it as a little kid so I can totally relate to monkeys for a shower. Between this blog and the Winnie the Pooh one, you have really given us some good ideas.
Thanks!
