For example, if the baby nursery is decorated with circles, you can throw a baby shower with a dot theme. Decorate your party area with dots. A great idea for this is to create a chandelier or mobiles filled with dots or colorful circles.
Another modern decoration that comes to mind are “blings”. If your mom-to-be likes her bling so much, why don’t you create a bling-themed party? You can decorate the center pieces with Swarovski crystals.
You can fill the room with over-sized jewelry (or “bling” as you call it). Keep the party area shimmering and shining by adding a touch of glitter all over the place.
If you still want to do the traditional ABC theme, why not go for it? Do this with a twist, of course. Instead of using toy blocks, you can decorate the room with contemporary ABC toys.
You can also use letter mats as flooring for your place. You can also fill your place with large letters with contemporary fonts. You can arrange the letters in groups or just form words with them.

This is a very interesting way to look at a baby shower, you are right everything is about the baby once it gets here so this is really the last time for awhile that you can make the mom feel special. I think decorating with stuff the mom likes is a great idea and can be really fun. The bling party sounds like a lot of fun and what woman doesn’t like her bling?

Where did you come up with these ideas from? This is awesome, I remember when I had my baby the entire thing was based on my nursery theme and there wasn’t any decorations that I could keep from the shower that would help decorate the nursery. I know that sounds backwards but it happened. I want to give the mom something for her and something she can use when it is done.

I have to tell you, what the writer mentions in the opening paragraph is precisely the reason why I do not attend baby showers. Most baby showers are just so tired and typical and mundane. And the dcor is so baby bland. I don’t think it is all about the dcor, either. You can’t make a baby shower exciting or more fun just by improving the decorations. The dcor can liven up or change the mood.

I never thought about this before but I love the idea. You can buy things for the baby or the mommy which ever you want to do. After the birth there are items that the mommy is going to need like clothes, and feminine products etc. and this would save her from having to go get these things with a new born baby in tow. I think a baby shower focused around the mommy is a great idea. You are right after the birth there is no more attention on the mom or the dad it is all on the baby and how cute they are and everything they do for the first five years of their life. So why not make the baby shower about the parents.

I think you have a great idea here. Mom’s to be need to be pampered while they are pregnant because it won’t happen very much after the baby’s born. Having the shower based around them will be fun and relaxing which will help them to cope with the stress of the days ahead, first time mom’s need it the most because they are scared. Great idea, I wish I’d thought of that a year ago.

How would you decorate a baby shower for a dad, you had the ideas of the bling and stuff for the mom, what would you do for a dad? Why do you suppose the dad is never included in the baby shower plans? Is he not a part of the baby, should he not be included?

I think it is great that you want to focus on the mother in this “modern” baby shower theme, I have to admit that is something that I’ve never seen before and I like it. I have a friend of mine that I work with that is getting ready to be dad for the first time. Is it acceptable to throw a baby shower for a man? I really think it could be fun to come up with a theme for his baby shower and we wouldn’t need games because we could do it at the office. I was just wondering if people might think it was weird.
Maybe, but I would tread carefully with that idea. First I wouldn’t call it a baby shower (I’d something along the lines of a “small gathering”) and second I would ask him about it before planning it.
